Crawford ISD
High school and Elementary renovations/additions – Crawford, Texas
Project Description
Crawford ISD students were attending school in cramped conditions, without enough space in key classrooms and laboratories. To alleviate overcrowding, school district leadership asked tax payers for their support in a bond election which would fund additions and renovations to Crawford’s high school and elementary campuses. The bond issue passed with overwhelming approval, and Pearson Construction was selected from multiple local general contractors to serve as the CMR on the 2008-2009 project.
Additional classrooms were added to the elementary school, and science labs were built in the high school. These additional facilities were crucial to enable the school district to manage increased enrollment and provide a lower student teacher ratio. Construction of new science laboratories were necessary for Crawford ISD to facilitate Texas Education Agency requirements that students complete at least four courses in all basic subjects, including English, math, science and social studies in order to graduate from high school. In addition, two Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps were added between the new science labs and classroom buildings, allowing high school students in wheelchairs to pass between the structures with greater ease. Thanks to work completed by Pearson, students are now learning in facilities they need to achieve academic success.
Due to strong communication skills, mandatory weekly meetings and thorough quality walk-throughs, Pearson Construction was able to finish all work two days prior to the scheduled completion date. This allowed CISD faculty earlier access during winter break to move items into their classrooms to prepare for their students’ return to school.
All work done on behalf of Crawford ISD was completed ahead-of-schedule and on-budget.

First Baptist Woodway Campus
Campus Addition- Woodway, Texas
This First Baptist Church of Woodway houses a thriving congregation with a quickly growing number of families with young children. In 1993, it opened Woodway Christian School to offer preschool services for three and four-year olds, and the school has expanded to include kindergarten through eighth grade. Because of this, church leaders decided to also expand its facilities, adding a three-story brick veneer building constructed for use by the school and the Mother’s Day Out children’s ministry program.
[Insert photo of building]
One of the highlights of this building is the extraordinary play area we built inside. Pearson team members transformed the building’s pipe columns into trees by welding additional pipes to create tree branches, surrounding this area with layered gypsum board cut in scalloped patterns and painted to simulate the trees leaves. Carpet especially designed for children’s play areas was laid with a 1.5” pad and playground pattern. This was chosen to provide an area for children to actively play, while minimizing scrapes and bruises if they take a tumble. All of this combined makes for a very appealing area that is seen upon entering the building.
Pearson is most pleased with the carefully planned security measures we adopted to protect children. Our crews worked extensively with the church coordinator to stage our construction in a way that allowed access by children to the existing exterior playground as much as possible throughout the construction process. This challenge was overcome by planning stages of construction according to the school’s and church’s schedule, and by building a fence surrounding and protecting the playground.
Security is always an issue with a facility of this nature, and the new facility was designed with this in mind. Visitors must pass a security desk upon entering the facility and cannot get past the lobby areas without someone giving them access. Even church members and employees are not allowed access to the children’s area without an electronic access card which is closely monitored. The finished building houses a large entry foyer, numerous nurseries, classrooms and administration offices that will allow the church to serve larger numbers of children in their community.
All work done on behalf of First Baptist Church Woodway was completed on-schedule and in-budget.

City of Harker Heights
New construction of 17,000 SF Municipal safety facility- Harker Heights, Texas
Project Description
After review, the Harker Heights city council chose to award construction The City of Harker Heights Police Facility to Pearson Construction Inc. based upon our pricing, completion schedule, and company reputation
Pearson Construction team members worked to install a sally-port, serving as a secure, controlled entrance to the rear of the jail. This increased safety of the police facility by allowing individuals to be contained securely while transferring them from police cruisers into the booking area. Pearson also installed a custom, stainless steelclad booking station, providing officers a processing unit for fingerprinting and mugshots that can be easily sanitized. The new structure offers more area and holding capacity with padded containment cells, which are equipped with custom flushing floor drains. This enables officers to work efficiently and reduces risk of officer injury while dealing with unruly prisoners
During construction, the project managner communicated closely with the city to respond to requests for additonal work or changes to plans. Despite costs associated with these changes, the Pearson Construction estimating team was able to offer recommendations which saved the owner $2,000.
All work done on behalf of the City of Harker Heights was completed on-schedule and in-budget.

Londonderry Centre
New construction of multistory medical center, with professional offices- Waco, Texas
Project Description
Pearson Construction was a designing partner and was chosen to construct the Londonderry Centre, a building which helped launch a new medical district in southwest Waco, Texas. When completed, this two-story building hosting various medical offices for multiple physicians and specialists, was featured in the national industry magazine Builder Profits. In addition, the structure was awarded the “Building of the Year” award by Butler Manufacturing.
In 2012, Dr. Pritchard was truly ahead of the curve, by envisioning a building that could host various medical specialities, and launch a true medical district close to both of Waco’s main hospitals. He first designed his building as a single-story structure, but all the offices quickly filled up with other medical professionals. Pritchard decided it was time to expand, and brought Pearson Construction on in 2013 to complete the multi-story structure from top to bottom, with full fire sprinkler systems, interior finishes and carpeting througout.
The challenge was building layers on top of an existing structure. But the expertise of Pearson Construction’s team members allowed the job to be completed well above the owner’s expectations.
All work done on behalf of the Londonderry Centre was completed on-schedule and in-budget.

Midway ISD
New Construction of 97,000 SF student activites center- Hewitt/Waco, Texas
Project Description
Midway ISD chose Pearson Construction to construct a new 97,000 SF athletic center targeting various uses for student sports teams and activities. This facility will include a full-size football field that can be converted into a baseball diamond, along with nets so golfers can practice inside, and a 10,000-square-foot weight room.
The two greatest benefits of this structure will be the multi-use nature of its design, along with the ability of teams to practice through inclement weather year-round.
Pearson Construction teams are adding to the versatile use quality by installing sectional nets and batting cages which retract into the ceiling when not in-use. The company’s expertise allows the multi-use design, easily allowing multiple student activities on a yearround basis including: band, baseball, cheer, dance, football, golf, orchestra and soccer.
Highly skilled Pearson Construction crews have built the facility with retractable doors to allow maximum windflow during spring and summer months. A heating system will warm the building, and high-quality insulation will allow athletes and student performers to practice throughout the fall and winter, despite the temperature outside.
Because of Pearson teams’ excellent collaboration skills, its crews are working in close proximity to another construction company, completing work on a separate structure about a quarter mile away.
The goal is to be able to allow students to use the facility after they return from the winter holidays, so completion is on a very closely monitored schedule.
All ongoing work done on behalf of Midway ISD is slated to be completed on-schedule and in-budget.

Gatesville ISD
Primary Library and Cafeteria Renovation- Gatesville, Texas
Project Description
Pearson Construction worked with Gatesville ISD to provide a completely refurbished library for its elementary-aged children, their teachers and parents. Gatesville Elementary’s new library is more than just a room; this special learning environment offers adventure, comfortable spaces to curl up with a book and colorful murals scattered across the walls that bring the stories children are reading to life.
Gatesville ISD is committed to providing 21st century technology for its faculty, and so Pearson Construction worked with the district to build a facility that would allow installation of state-of-the-art projectors and screens to make presentations interactive and clearly viewable across the library.
In addition, our company constructed well laid out offices for library administrators and a large meeting room frequently used to invite the community in for gatherings at the school. This renovation was one of the first huge reinvestments into the elementary library in more than two decades.
While on campus, Pearson Construction also added two new walk-in coolers for the existing cafeteria. This enabled staff more space to stock up on provisions they need to offer quality meals to students.
All work done on behalf of Gatesville ISD was completed two weeks early, ahead-of-schedule and in-budget.

H.G. Isbill McGregor Junior High
H.G. Isbill Junior High Renovation- McGregor, Texas
Project Description
Pearson Construction renovated the H.G. Isbill Junior High School building for the first time since it had been built. Project team members gave the entire interior space a facelift, from wall finishes to new VCT flooring, repainting all walls, by installing new HVAC units throughout the entire building, and laying new carpet in office areas and new acoustic ceilings throughout. The school’s restrooms were improved to meet ADA requirements, student musicians were given a renovated and updated band hall, and a new 1,200 SF cafeteria was added for the campus. Since the project’s completion, McGregor ISD has provided us with thoroughly positive feedback from students, faculty and community visitors.
Our project team members completed this quality work on a very tight timetable to minimize impact to the education of McGregor ISD students. The summer break was heavily utilized so there were few students present during renovation. Meanwhile, our superintendents worked extensively with teachers who needed access to their classrooms throughout the summer, making their portions of the building available as needed. Through collaboration and skilled time management, the project was completed within a three month window of time.
Pearson is committed to green efforts in within the scope of our own company’s work and routinely works to help its clients design and implement energy-saving features in their structures. Upgraded electrical systems and sensor-controlled light switches were added to all classrooms in an effort to conserve energy. This will help McGregor ISD meet its goal of directing fewer tax payer dollars towards paying utilities, but rather investing them towards educational resources.
All work done on behalf of McGregor ISD was completed ahead of schedule and on-budget.

TSTC Aerospace
Aerospace Building Addition- Waco, Texas
Project Description
Pearson Construction completed a new Aerospace Center Addition for Texas State Technical College with student classrooms, an airport terminal, work bays and an aircraft hanger. This 61,000 SF facility provides amazing hands-on learning opportunities for future aerospace industry professionals.
The exterior of the building is constructed with split-faced masonry units, prefinished metal wall panels, aluminum composite panels, and a glass curtainwall system. This glass curtainwall system is a full two stories in height and showcases great views of the airport runways. The exterior aluminum composite panels are finished in a bright red color with some of the panels on the front having a mirror appearance.
Laid out in the building’s floor plan is a north wing, a south wing, and a center assembly area connecting each end. The north wing is designed as classroom space for pilot training and faculty office space. The south wing is designed for aircraft mechanic and assembly training classrooms and also includes a 12,000 square foot hangar for hands-on training. In the ceiling of the central area, a full-size actual Cessna airplane is hung from the structure.
Our project team was led by project manager Rickey Henry and superintendent Mark Denton, and they both encountered and worked to overcome many challenges throughout the project. One of the obstacles was the location of the building site, which was situated on a former military base. Since the new structure had been built on top of many previously dismantled military buildings, several items of debris were found while doing earthwork that had to be filed, logged and returned to TSTC. In addition, poor soil conditions and the presence of water required 60 foot deep drilled piers to be fully cased. This required extra time and effort by Pearson crews, and extreme attention to detail. It was also a time consuming and messy process with some of the piers being 36 inches in diameter. A Grand Opening Ceremony was held in May of 2012 and many dignitaries from around the state of Texas were present. Thanks to on-time and on schedule project work by Pearson Construction, TSTC began its first semester of classes in the new structure during the summer of 2012 as scheduled.
All work done by Pearson Construction on behalf of TSTC was completed on-time and in-budget.
